About Me
My name is Susana Parra, Yogic name Karuna, that means Compassion. The name was chosen during my training by my dearest Yoga teacher, Emma Brown and it's linked with the way we bounded throughout our Yoga Journeys.

This particular yoga journey started 11 years ago and after spending some time in India at Ashrams and completing the Yoga Teachers Training in London, I would like to bring my yoga experience into the world, in particular to a world that is very dear to me.

Having anthropology as my academic background, it was very early in life that I realised that I loved to make people comfortable and support them as much as I could. After completing a MA at SOAS, University of London, and spending time in Europe, Africa and Asia, that continues to be my life-drive!

Caring for vulnerable people in the UK context, came later in my life and I enjoyed every moment of it, even during the Covid-19 pandemic that we all avoid to acknowledge at this point! Since 2015, I've trained several healthcare assistant and cared for hundreds of vulnerable people. It allowed me to develop a very important awareness of people's needs and challenges, from both perspectives.
The physical, emotional and spiritual impact that caring for people has in every human being is unpredictable and there is no training that can prepare us for it. However, it is my strong belief that Yoga in general and Caring yoga in particular can support and provide tools to deal with the specificities of working and being part of Health and Social care Sector.

ABOUT CARING YOGA
Caring yoga for Health and Social Care staff
Caring Yoga developed from the idea that health and social care staff can benefit from more support and attention to their own needs. Caring yoga intends to be a safe place of harmony and connection, where people can enjoy relaxing moments at yoga classes.
Caring yoga for organisations
Organisations such as non-governmental organisations, councils, care homes, care agencies and any company that would like to improve their staff and clients' well being can join the Caring Yoga Network.
By joining the network, both staff and clients will have access to beneficial packages, special classes and supporting workshops.
Caring yoga for everyone
Caring Yoga cares about everyone' well being. So even if you are not connected with the "Caring World" or any organisation, you are more than welcome to join one of our classes, open to all ages and physical abilities.

Philosophy & Sivananda Yoga
Caring yoga follows the philosophy behind Sivananda Yoga.
Swami Sivananda was a medical doctor born in South of India. From early age he showed signs of serving and loving all humanity. Throughout his spiritual journey, he founded the Divine Society and established a free medical and clinical practice for the poor. These great achievements were accompanied by making Yoga more acessible and several of his disciples were allowed to teach a simplified "modern" way of yoga that could easily be taken into Western modern lives.
Briefly, Yoga means Union and can be considered a way of life. It embodies proper exercise, proper breathing, proper relaxation, proper diet, positive thinking and meditation.
Yoga is an ancient discipline that allows a holistic development of the individual. It focuses on physical, mental and spiritual needs of individuals to ultimately develop a sense of consciousness and belonging in a balanced way.
